Description

Endomec Abamectin Pour-On (Low Volume) For Dairy And Beef Cattle

Active Ingredient: Abamectin @ 10g/L

Endomec Pour-On is for the treatment and control of abamectin-sensitive internal and external parasites of beef and dairy cattle.

Endomec Pour-On is a ready-to-use low volume (LV) endectocide backline containing Abamectin (10g/L) for treating and controlling abamectin-sensitive internal and external parasites of beef and dairy cattle. Endomec is effective against Abamectin-sensitive strains of internal and external parasites when applied to the skin along the backline of cattle.

The convenience of the low-volume formulation means that Endomec Pour-on For Beef and Dairy Cattle will treat the same number of cattle at half the volume of other ML pour-on.  The concentrated dose means large cattle (600kg live weight) can be dosed with one squeeze of a standard 30mL pour-on applicator.  With less weight to handle, Endomec Pour-on For Beef and Dairy Cattle offers easier application, transport and storage.

  3. Q Will Endomec Abamectin Pour-On control buffalo fly in cattle?
Asked by Ethel on May 8, 2023 8:25 pm
    Answered by the admin

When registering Endomec Abamectin Pour-On with the APVMA, the claim of control over buffalo flies was not submitted for approval, so it is not included on the Endomec label.  Other Abamectin Pour-Ons, such as Paramectin Pour-On, claims to protect cattle from reinfection of Buffalo Flies for up to 14 days after treatment.  As the APVMA label legally binds us, we cannot recommend Endomec Abamectin Pour-On be used for Buffalo Fly control on cattle.

Mecin drenches such as Endomec Abamectin Pour-On, Ivomec, Cydectin or Dectomax are not registered or recommended to control warts on cattle. Repeat applications of Endomec Abamectin Pour-On are unlikely to have any effect on warts, as the drench mainly targets parasites.

Warts, also known as papillomas, on cattle are caused by a virus called bovine papillomavirus (BPV). This virus is spread through contact with infected animals, their secretions, or contaminated objects such as grooming tools, fences, or feeding troughs. The virus causes the growth of small, raised, and rough skin lesions, or warts, on the animal's skin. Warts can appear on various body parts, including the head, neck, and legs. In most cases, warts are benign and do not cause significant harm to the animal. However, they can be unsightly, cause discomfort, and potentially affect animal welfare, particularly if they become large or numerous.

Although warts are generally a cosmetic issue, they can be a problem for beef producers, as they may reduce the value of the animal at the market. Therefore, it is essential to prevent the spread of BPV by maintaining good hygiene practices and keeping infected animals separate from uninfected animals. Additionally, some vaccines can help prevent the spread of BPV and reduce the incidence of warts in cattle. Please consult your local veterinarian for their recommendations.

Endomec Abamectin Pour-On is only registered for use on Beef & Dairy Cattle. Endomec Abamectin Pour-On LV is not registered for use in sheep and alpacas. We have a range of Sheep Products for your consideration; in 'Shop Our Range', select 'Animal Health', 'Sheep Products', and 'Drenches'. You also have the option of contacting your local veterinarian for further recommendations for alpacas, who would be able to provide you with an off-label recommendation as we are bound to the AVPM registration of use.

Macrocyclic lactone (ML) Drenches such as Endomec Abamectin Pour-On are almost entirely excreted in faeces.  The rate an avermectin is excreted differs considerably between the various commercial compounds due to differences in their lipophilicity and rates of hepatic metabolism and clearance in the bile.

Tips For Use

  • Do not treat calves under 50kg.
  • Endemic Pour-On is applied undiluted using a good quality pour-on applicator.
  • It is easy to use, with half the volume dose of most other pour-on preparations for cattle.
  • Ideal for dairy herds and for beef cattle entering feedlots for finishing.
  • It should not be applied as a single spot or to cattle that are wet.
  • Efficacy may be reduced if there is heavy rain soon after application and therefore it is preferable to delay application when rain is forecast.
  • If applied to cattle in direct sunlight on days of very high ambient temperature, there may be a temporary local irritation or inflammation of the skin at the site of application.
  • Abamectin may be toxic and care should be exercised in ensuring the correct dose rate in cattle that are in poor body condition or drought-affected. It is preferable to ensure cattle in poor condition have been on adequate nutrition for several days before treating.
  • The repeated use of any ML drench is likely to result in the emergence of resistance in worm parasites and therefore, it may be advisable to occasionally or regularly alternate with a different class of anthelmintic product.

Storage:

  • Store below 30ºC (room temperature) in the closed, original container in a dry, well-ventilated area, and protect from sunlight.

Safety Directions:

  • Poisonous if swallowed.
  • Will irritate the eyes and skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

  • If the product gets in the eyes, wash it out immediately with water.
  • Wash hands after use.
  • After each day’s use, wash gloves, goggles and contaminated clothing.
